I'd chalk it up to the folly of youth, but when I was there for Pt I, I supported what we were doing and I was only 20. I supported stopping short since it would have taken us out of our defined mission objectives.
I didn't support Clinton, the U.N. and everyone of the rest of the hug 'em till they become nice people annually ignoring Sadam's open defiance and refusal to comply with the conditions he agreed to to STOP the shooting the 1st time around. He violated it multiple times, the U.N. (if they had cajones) would have been well within their rights to go back in and smack him again since he broke the terms of the agreement.
17 years. "Timmy, you better behave, you promised! If you don't, I'm going to say you better behave again!" Even the police officers in England have gotten tougher in the that time period. They've actually got guns now.

But this "War is bad, troop home!" kneejerk reaction of uninformed liberal sheep pisses me the hell off. Make up your own goddamned mind. Then if you still honestly believe that all the troops should come home now then I'll respect you. I'll think you are wronger the Satan but I'll respect you for having an informed opinion.

Contrary to popular belief - The futures are what is driving the oil prices up so much during this time. With so many people unsure about the economy and what to invest in they are pulling money away from other investments to bet on the price of oil.
But to also make a point - While I do not believe at all we went to war for oil, just because gas prices are up to $4 a gallon (and people say see, how does this benefit us?) doesn't mean that "us" isn't seeing benefits.
"Us" is relative. In this case "us" could be exxon/mobile. In that case in benefits "us" a great deal.
In this case Canadian - Big Dog is right with his point about World Police. It is a necessity. If we all lived in an isolated state, eventually someone will try to take over the world or portion of it for purposes that are not of the best nature - IE history (Hitler, Napoleon). You really do have to fight for freedom.
The war was perfectly legal unfortunately according to UN sanctions. Saddam's unwillingness to allow proper inspections eventually did him in. BTW some great interviews from Saddam's FBI agent in charge of extracting intel from him after his capture - I'll post them in another thread.
On the biofuel front. Ethanol from corn isn't going to happen as a replacement for oil itself. Unfortunately I've seen several CSPAN debates over this. It looks like it is not going to make enough sense in the long run.
Hydrogen/Water or other biodiesel fuel sources (like algae with other combinations) are more viable once the technology gets us there.
Try not to be too hard on Canadian. It's easy to get caught up in all of the BS media/govt hype all over the world. I'll recite a verse I heard yesterday at lunch from a friend who's dad is retired CIA. Don't believe everything you see. Think about it. You will never see, hear or touch any of the classified information our governments have. You will not know what they know, nor do we probably want to.
