    Mass Effect

Got released for the PC this month, I just picked it up and I love it.  I've only gotten through the first little part of the beginning, but this is the most fun I've had with a RPG since oblivion, maybe even morrowind.

Erm... Oblivion/morrowind are not RTS games. Games like Commander and Conquer and the Warcraft games are RTS games.

Though, I have heard great things about Mass Effect.

    Re: Mass Effect

I have played through this game 3 times on the xbox 360, and 3 times on the PC. PC version has a lot of the bugs fixed (better graphics stability) and a slightly better interface, as well as some slight tweaks. The backstory and plot of the story is top-notch, and I believe it won the Best Storyline at E3, and was a close runner-up to Game of the Year.

If you can stand up to bouts of dialog and cutscenes, you'll be just fine with this game. The story is not easily predictable, and several twists can occur depending on how you engage with other characters in the game. The combat system is, well, less than desirable, but the particle effects are far beyond top-notch. Just using Biotics and Tech skills looks awesome. There are only two weapon models for each weapon (Assault Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle) and the Assault Rifle has an extra model for the Geth Pulse Rifle (you'll know what I'm talking about if you play it). There are also 10 levels of upgrades for armor, upgrades, and weaponry. Upgrades are split into: Ammunition upgrades, Mechanical upgrades (for weaponry) and armor upgrades, all with 10 levels as well.

You can only have two squadmates with you at a time, and I found their performances to be pitiful at best, even if you give them the best weaponry. Rainbow Six Vegas and GRAW (1 and 2) both had smarter AI. You'll be doing most of the gruntwork though. Vehicles are pretty limited. You only get the Mako, which is like an APC with weak jets (vertical), an MG, and a mass driver (fires an explosive round at sub-light speeds). The funny thing, with the Mako, is when you run into a certain type of enemy, in which once you hit them they go flying, I mean flying across the map.

Overall, I would say GET THE GAME. The storyline will support you for a while, as well as the classes + their abilities, and the choice to be a Renegade, or a Paragon (Neutral too, if you like). The combat system is not very robust, but it's more like a side to the main dish that is Mass Effect's story.

My thoughts after playing it exactly, not to great combat, but amazing story.

And so far I have found that no matter what you choose for allies, they don't really help much in combat. Take someone like Tali along for the tech boost as far as I can tell
So far I have greatly enjoyed this game.
