    about damn time

    http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20050907/index.html

    no more hard disks.

Here's what I say......why the hell use a battery. Why don't they have an AC adapter to plug into the wall, so when the computer is off, the RAM is still on, or at least maintained?

AC Power still fails, its fact of life. If you did not have a battery and lost power you would lose everything that was on it. But you could just use a UPS, but if power goes out and your PC is on the same ups and it dies as well you are still screwed.

    RE: about damn time

DDR RAM HD's instead of Disk HD's using a PCI card and a SATA connection. This one's capacity is only 8 gig's, but for those in the high end application industry (graphics, architecture, I/O data app's, databases) having a near 0ms response time, and a maximum throughput for data bandwidth is a serious advantage.

However, it would be impossible to keep data permanently on the RAM, unless you never turn off your comp, and can guarantee there will NEVER be a power outage. It comes with a recharging 16 hour battery....which will last you over night......but again, why the hell use a battery. Couldn't they have gotten a simple AC adapter for it?

the benchmarks aren't such a big deal, especially for averge joe pwnage. But, it's still better than having spinning HD's.

    stupid designers.

yeah, but their idea is that everyone, or people at work, turn off their computer at night, and so the battery kicks in, every night, for 16 hours or so......that's fine, except for the WEEKEND.

And, for people that would use this in your house, if there were an AC adapter for it, rather than a battery, you could turn off the computer, reset, etc, without losing everything on the RAM drive ever.

Of course, if there's no AC power because of a blackout, or moving the box, the battery could be there for emergencies, but for day to day usage....the depending on the battery is silly. I would just leave it to the AC. Even more, why can't it draw power from the regular PSU, similar to case lights, LED's etc. the clock on my case is on all the time, even though the computer is "off".

Seems like a design issue that should have never come up. No one is going to care if there's another wire sticking out of a pci card in the back of the computer.

    still banned :-( ?
