Thread: NGalore's unsavoury antics ...

Hello everyone:

I don't want to waste too much of your time but I felt I must share this story with you about the activities of some of your "peer" communities, specifically one in particular. Take it as a story to learn from, a heads up, and or a message about extremely unethical practices being implemented and by whom (we all love to have someone to point a finger at lol). I apologize if this message is unwelcome or in the wrong section.

It seems there has been a recent "attack" on the Noob Refuge, NR, gaming community. The source? Noob Galore, a.k.a. NG. NG has come under fire for less than friendly inter-community relations in the past, but I would definitely have to say that NG has sunk to an all time low. They recently purchased several web addresses with the NR name, such as noobrefuge[dot]us and I believe noobrefuge[dot]net. (The real NR address is noobrefuge[dot]com) They didn't stop there ...
Noob Galore is a large well established community. What's more is they are backed by an actual server rental company. They don't rent servers, they rent out servers. Why do they need to imitate other communities in attempts to try and steal their traffic? It seems they are willing to employ the lowest and most immature promotional strategies ever. It gets worse as they are launching clone NR servers with their spoofed noobrefuge addresses in them. But wait, they aren't done yet. They claim they have registered Noob Refuge and NR as a trademark of their own!! With that they have made a few casual statements about the fact they could issue a cease and decist order to NR. How low can you get? I don't care what kind of feud you may have with another community this is despicable.

It also wasn't like they didn't know it would upset NR. Quite the contrary. They openly discuss in a thread on the NG forums how mad NR is going to be, and how much drama they are going to cause. Sure enough NR members begin expressing their distaste towards NG's actions in their forums all the while NG leaders and members alike haughtily laugh at them and poke fun … and delete their posts. They also invade the NR forums to stir the pot even more continuing to make wry comments, and openly show how joyous they are that NR is upset.

Some may say it is NR's fault as they had not secured these addresses or their trademark, but lets stop and remember these are GAMING COMMUNITIES … not waring corporations. That being said it also puts things in a new even more disgusting light. NG, as I said earlier, is basically a gaming community riding on the back of it's father server rental company. They very well could turn a monetary "money in the pocket" profit. So that begs the question, is that what this is about? Is it all about money for them? They obviously don't care about good business ethics. Makes me wonder if they even care about the game or about having fun. This is beyond rediculous and childish.

As I am not a member of either community. I simply saw a need to circulate this story so other communities may learn from it and protect themselves aswell as to spread the word about NG's unethical promotion practices.
