    Books and Literature

Just thought I would make a topic about Books and Literature. What are some of your favorite books? What are you currently reading? Favorite author?

I'm currently Life of Pi by Yann Martel. I think it's going to be great.

    Re: Books and Literature

...I'm going to ignore the "favorite" questions here, because asking an English major for favorites is a dangerous, dangerous plan.

I'm between books right now (curse you, work!), but between Saturday and yesterday evening: Crichton's Airframe and Great Train Robbery (anyone who's entertained by Victorian England should really read the second of those), Carey's Kushiel's Mercy, and Bishop's Tangled Webs. 'cause I'm a total sucker for trashy dark fantasy novels... provided the author's name isn't Laurell K. Hamilton or Anne Rice.

I'm carrying around Guns of the South, by Turtledove, but I doubt I'm going to get a chance to sit down and read properly before the weekend. Sadly, I have yet to master the skill of knitting and reading simultaneously. Or sewing and reading.

Arreo can testify to the fact that I absolutely disappear into a book if I enjoy it. And get very, very pissy if someone tries to drag me out for less than an emergency. (Eating does not qualify as an emergency, dammit.)

...and thanks, TehSpaz, now I want to reread Strangers. :P

Stranger in a Strange Land is a classic in my opinion. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is great as well. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is favorite book of the collection by far. I'm not a huge fan of Mostly Harmless, but it part of the trilogy which makes it good.

    Have run reading Twilight lol.

The Dirk Gently books by Adams are pretty damned cool too. The electric monk and his horse just kills me.

Right now I'm digging on China Mieville, Thomas Pynchon, and Iain Banks.

I totally don't remember how many times I've read it. There are some that just get read most years. Stranger, usually a couple of the early Pern books (though that's fallen off greatly as I've gotten older and more bitter...), Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, sometimes Tolkien, Asimov, usually some other Heinlein.

I might take to rereading House of Leaves every so often, just to see what else I get out of it, but it sure as hell isn't going to be an every-year book.

...man. China Mieville would own my soul if I let him. I need to actually make a shopping list for Half-Price one of these days. Him, Stephen Brust, more of Arthur C. Clarke, the rest of the Foundation series...

(I told you asking an English major these questions was a bad idea, right?)

Twilight, and its sequels are all excellent books. Albeit a little feminine in nature because they're written from the POV of a girl, and a woman author. Its easy to deal with though and really get into it. I personally loved the books and will probably see the movie lol. (Fuck I know I'm gonna get it terms of being made fun of for this post lol )

Favorite books? Well, the above Twilight series for one, I also dig the Eragon/Eldest books, and will pick up Brisingr the moment it comes out. The Harry Potter series I loved, currently am waiting on the final installment of the Pendragon series (holy fuck I CANNOT wait lol) Aaaand yeah, theres several other books I love but can't be bothered to remember the name.

I'm a book lover what can I say lol. Plus I'm an aspiring writer, so reading naturally is a love of mine.

P.S I've had to try and post this 3 times now rofl cause of new posts!
