I can't believe you automatically assume it was theft in the first place, or that it was deliberate, or that they have actually seen any additional profit from it.

Maybe it was just operator error; perhaps they used the same calibration tools on a great number of pumps, and the tools themselves were off. You don't know, but are still willing to make that enormous logical leap from an innocent mistake into malice aforethought without even questioning why.

But for extra fun in spotting subversion and the use of critical thinking, spot my error(s) in math, then do the figures on what they make in gross profit in a day compared to their 'theft'. Then figure they have a profit margin between 5 and 3%, and ask yourself if they thought it was worth it to lose all or most of their legitimate business for a 2% premium on a little more than half their pumps.

The 80 IQ moron behind thier counter can see that is more than most bank robbers steal on a good day, and they were doing it every day for god knows how long.

Since the average take of a bank heist was $13,615.58 (in 2007), you might be right. Of course, if you figure that Sunmart was doing their [legitimate] business on just a 3% profit margin, they make roughly 10x that amount per diem. By this logic, said 80 IQ moron should think about going into the gasoline business.
