VoIP and T-Mobile @home
I have been a T-Mobile customer with their Favs Family plan for 3 or 4 years now. I have been very happy with my coverage and service.
They introduced a VoIP service that I can use to replace my landline for just $10/month. I have spent the last week researching it on-line and found out Dallas was one of the beta cities for it so I decided to ask here if anyone had any experience with it.

PS This is NOT T-Mobile Hotspot @Home. If you do any research on it you will be amazed at the number of people that don't realize one is a VoIP line and the other allows you to use your Cell phone via Wi-Fi instead of cell towers when you are in a hotspot, like your home wireless network. (There by saving minutes)

only reason VOIP scares me is that if power is out in an emergency or w/e....or your internet is down, so is your phone line.
CAT3 cable (phone cable) actually carries a small charge..and nerds like me actually can splice that and charge things like batteries or cell phones in an emergency....and since it's powered solely through the phone line, which is almost completely underground, when theres a hurricane and such, it keeps power.

Currently we have all cordless phones which all die when the power goes out so we keep an old corded phone that works when the power is out.
However, now I have my Cell phone to use in those power outages so it isn't a big deal one way or the other. My car will let me charge my cell phone thru the cig lighter without running the engine or without even putting the keys in the ignition which has been nice on several occasions and makes my wife jealous as her car doesn't.
I am not Macgyver so using the phone line to maintain power to the cities heart and lung machines isn't a issue for me currently either.

Well i got it and set it all up when I got home.
Spoke on it for 30-40 minutes to 3 different people. Not one of them could tell any difference to talking to me on my land line and for me It was 98% teh quality of my land line. Thier voices had the ever so SLIGHTEST tint to it. Not bad or worse than a land line... just different.
Over all, so far I am very happy with the product. $9.99 + tax or ~$13 is MUCH better than the $48 I was paying Sage telecom and now I get unlimited long distance instead of 1 free hour/month.
If anyone else conciders it feel free to shoot me any questions. I can see where it may not be great for everyone but it seems top be good for me.
