Thread: Lighting strikes

When ever its storming i get on my laptop and play over the wireless network. Then lighting strikes right next to the house and it blows out the modem, router,cable, power cords, amps etc.. I hate when this happens because you have to go buy a new amp, router, modem, router, etc... Then the cable company takes a week before they even take a look at it then another three days before it is fixed.

Lightning itself should have little to no affect on your wireless network unless it actually hits something related to it. I usually turn my comp off if the storm is bad enough to warrant it... however ive played multiple times on my wireless network when lighning has been hitting right by the house. Hell ive even been on the comp (not on a wireless on this occasion) when lightning hit the house and it didnt do anything to the modem or cables and so on.

It sounds to me like your problem would more likely be a power surge. Are you using a surge protector?

He DID have a power surge and it DID hit something that has to do w/ the wireless network. He said that it blew out his router and modem.

When this happend there was only rain so i didn't think i needed to turn off my comp. The first lighting strike i heard was the one that blew out the modem and router.
