    Yeah, I guess you can say it's similar to what you described... but I think it's more like dropping an Ice cube into a pressurized tank of boiling water; where both the pressure extreme and temperature extreme is affecting the object in question.

    And of course, let's not forget the radiation, cosmic rays, and all the other stuff in space...
