I dunno, how would the water cause the dirt to come UP out of the hole, when some of that dirt was originally like 12 inches below ground level? Also, if that water was "flowing" wouldn't it carry the dirt around and spread it out, rather than pile it up neatly right next to where it came from?

Most importantly... I do not think there was standing water in my yard. I wasn't there though, so I guess I don't know for sure.

Maybe there was a outside animal looking for shelter and started digging at those posts to get under but failed and moved to the next pole.
Then was beamed up by the mothership.
