Two big problems (both perceived and realistic) are our waste of energy and our poor education. I.e. we're viewed as wasteful and stupid, and on a large scale that is true in some ways. Obama has the balls and sense to tackle both these issues with his desire to improve education and alternate energy sources for the future. Our problems are so bad right now they cannot be fixed immediately, but looking to the future and the next generation is the way to go for sure. The economic policy of both sides is a bit flawed, for sure, but Obama's overall intellectual assessment of the problem and the long-term solution is much more accurate.

I do not know what debate you saw, but Obama appeared far more business oriented and to the point while McCain was making petty jabs at his associations and made very disingenuous attempts to appeal to peoples pathos and ethos; hey, when debating, it's logos that wins.
