It actually happened to us during our showdown Saturday night.
Having one team of dedicated teamplayers and organized squads, while the other consists of lone wolfers trying to be heros and get high scores severely cripples the fun factor.
However, here's the factors that need to be considered:
Do we punish the organized squads by breaking them up and seperating them?
Do we change the setup to switch people at random - something which greatly upset players before?
Do we insist that all lone wolfers join squads, but excuse them for not PLAYING as a squad when they join one?
It's a sensitive issue, but an important one. Like I said, your concern is valid.
In my own opinion, doing what you're doing already seems to be the best way to handle it. So of the less miopic regulars know that when the game becomes a blow out, it's time to switch teams and balance it out. I know most of the LAW guys did that Saturday night, for example.
Also, leading by example is powerful. I sometimes overly assume that just because they're on this server that they understand HOW to play as a team. Several new and upcoming regs have posted threads about not understanding how to play as a team until joining this server, and it's true. I personally invite a few friendly regs, and then take a few newbies under my wing each time I play. The newbies catch on pretty quick when they see the regs jump and run when ordered. The power of example works wonders.
Basically, if you notice that a game is becoming a blow out, and not just one round, but repeatedly, challenge some of the squads on the opposing team to switch. You'd be surprised by who's thinking the same thing on the other side. Not everyone is satisfied with a quick and easy victory.
I know that the admins take teamplay very seriously, kicking incooperative lone wolfers simply for not contributing to the teamplay. If you notice that certain players are being detrimental to the game play, bring it to the attention of an admin.
Quickest way to straighten out a blow out is to put the fear of God into the players, so to speak.
Just keep playing well, and help the stubborn ones to come around...and all will be well.
