    Re: How Obama Got Elected

so why is it (outside of rock..in a way...) that the conseritives here the love the capitalist system, and believe if you manage poorly you should fail, complain about major news networks being bias? Maybe i'm wrong but if people want to hear about Obama, wouldn't it be a good business practice to you know, talk more about him? sells more advertising, making the networks more money.

Or lets put it this way if people want to hear Pro-Obama and not Pro-McCain, why would a network want to run a 5 minute piece on a McCain rally, when they could run a 10 minute piece on an Obama Rally?

Same with Palin and her wardrobe, the people wanted to hear about it and what people like Matthews and Oberman had to said.

Journalism isn't dead. It's just that there are fewer and fewer 'old school' journalists and an ever increasing number of talking heads spewing hot air and hyperbole.
LOL, your actually citing them as quality journalists? ROFL LMAO

OMG. Last night I watched The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC for the first time. That's about a left wing piece of shit if there ever was one.

At least when the right-wingers spin it's entertaining (O'Reilly had Al Sharpton on last night. At least O'Reilly said something like c'mon Al, you know we're doing this for entertainment!)

But that Rachel Maddow show was just sad. It was NOT entertaining. It was sickening.

From a capitalist standpoint I have no problem with them running any story that makes money, but if you want to do that call yourself what you are. If I call myself a TeamPlayer, yet lone wolf it all day, am I truly being what I claim to be, or just doing what I want in the name of Civil?

Yeah, she was formerly on Air America. And as a lefty, I appreciate what they say, but their rhetoric is way overblown; it is like Rush Limbaugh for the left. She is a pretty smart person, and while I generally agree with her, she certainly does lean way out to the left. Personally, I can;t stand Air America. I liked the Al Franken show when he was on; he had really good guess frequently. But other than that I felt it was too loud and full of rhetoric, especially people like Big Eddy. I caught Maddows debut on MSNBC (odd because I rarely watch news from major networks) and her guests were calling her out, it was a sad state.

My brother is a really big fan of Maddow. It is funny, a vet. with fairly severe PTSD sitting in his car listening to Air America in traffic. He was getting so pissed he can't see straight; ranting and shouting. I suggested turning the radio to some classical or something. Most of those shows, whether right or left are just way over the top. And that is where she hails from.

    Re: How Obama Got Elected

As an experiment, let's say the media isn't biased, but instead exactly like Red is saying. Then that means that an institution that is obligated to vet the truth, to keep you informed and enlighten the masses, has instead taken the capitalist route. What do people want? What do I think people want? What sells?

As a result, democracy works. It is as you say; the media is dictated by us. We the people. We the people who get the things that we want as well as the things that we don't know we want as directed and interpreted by the media which, at this point in the experiment, may as well be state run. We persist on opinionated garbage from the local media outlets and an agenda of our own making from the corporate outlets. If there was ever an epic fail, this is it. Maybe more so now that it involves us in the equation as a catalyst for the media’s failure to independently and objectively enlighten the people.

*edit: "It is as you as you..." - I had an echo in my head, fixed it.
