Star Wars books
Curious if anyone here knows anything about this. I have been meaning to start reading again but I can not find anything that really catches my eye everytime i go to barnes and noble. Then I end up spending a bunch of money on graphic novels by DC. And since I am into the whole star wars thing I figured I could get into the books.
I have been reading lore here and there from wookieepedia and other stuff so it seems to have some interesting stuff.
Herein lies my problem and the reason behind my thread. I do not know which book to read first. I dont want to start in the middle of some random series and be confused as to wtf is going on. I have been interested in what goes on post galactic civil war mainly the stuff involving the Solo kids, Yuuzhan Vong wars, and the whole Darth Caedus thing.
And if you got a problem with my star wars then i got a problem with your DnD and Magic: The Gathering

The Yuuzhan Vong thing was good for the first few books, and then dear God, it got boring. You should at least read them to learn about how Chewbaca died. :3
I enjoyed most of the stuff I've read that's pre-Vong anyway, especially the Jedi Academy trilogy. I think that's what it was called, the one where Luke starts taking on apprentices.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

The Boba Fett/Bounty Hunter Trilogy was pretty decent, especially if you like Boba Fett as much as I do. It picks up after he gets tossed into the sarlacc pit in episode VI, and gives you a pretty decent idea of what the universe becomes post-VI. Also, check out the X-Wing series. Basically focuses on Wedge Antilles and the X-Wing squadron.
There was a website which chronicled the timeline of most of the EU books, but I can't recall it. Been a while since I've read any of those books. I'll post here if I can remember it.

I think Tick meant the ROGUE Squadron series of books. And yes, I very very very highly encourage you to read the entire series. Some of the best books on the Star Wars universe. Ever. Epic action and plot and lots of fun interesting places and people like you would expect from one of the original star wars movies.
The other great books are mostly written by Timothy Zahn. If you see his name on the cover of the book it is a MUST read. Zahn especially is a master story teller and I think even someone with no Star Wars background would love his writing. It's fantastic. I haven't read the books in years now, but I loved every one I read. Those are the cream of the crop though.
In my personal opinion, totally forget the New Jedi Order books. It's a terrible series that ruins Star Wars. The Yuuzhan Vong are clearly just some BS they made up to sell another 10 books in the series...total crap. Just skip these and you'll feel better knowing that the Star Wars you love didn't turn into "Aliens vs. Predator". :5
*EDIT* Okay here's a beginning list:
Timothy Zahn
Heir to the Empire (1991)
Dark Force Rising (1992)
The Last Command (1993)
Specter of the Past (1997)
Vision of the Future (1998)
Survivor's Quest (2004)
Outbound Flight (2006)
Allegiance (2007)
Rogue Squadron Series
1. Rogue Squadron by Michael A. Stackpole (1996)
2. Wedge's Gamble by Michael A. Stackpole (1996)
3. The Krytos Trap by Michael A. Stackpole (1996)
4. The Bacta War by Michael A. Stackpole (1997)
5. Wraith Squadron by Aaron Allston (1998)
6. Iron Fist by Aaron Allston (1998)
7. Solo Command by Aaron Allston (1999)
8. Isard's Revenge by Michael A. Stackpole (1999)
9. Starfighters of Adumar by Aaron Allston (1999)
Other books widely considered to be classics/outstanding
Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina
Tales of the Bounty Hunters
Shadows of the Empire (Disputed perhaps, but I love this book)
I, Jedi
Children of the Jedi
Darksaber
Zahn, Stackpole, and Kevin Anderson are the three authors I enjoyed reading most, but I doubt you'll be disappointed by any of the ones on this list. If someone has more to add to the "Classics" list then by all means. Those were the ones I remembered, but it has been a long, long time.

Re: Star Wars books
Totally overlooked so far, and worth a read...
The Han Solo adventure trilogy, circa 1979, written by Brian Daley.
Han Solo at Star's End
Han Solo's Revenge
Han Solo and the Lost Legacy
Well before the Zhan, but I enjoyed these far more than the majority of the newer books. They really caught the flavor that was missing in many.

Re: Star Wars books
I loved all those books. Yes Zahn is a awesome writer.
Right now I am reading the story for the Falcon, where Han goes back looking for the previous owners of the Falcon, I have to say it is a good book so far.
Outbound Flight and I, Jedi so far are still my favorite books.
