We already do...currently the US Navy/Government is not willing to get involved with a pirate hunt.

Too bad....A hundred years ago while going to college I worked part time in the periodicals library. Used to read Proceedings and a bunch of other military and history mags. Good stuff.

simple solution.

Shoot all pirates, and leave them dead or dying in the water. No sympathy for those who choose to get in a boat with guns and try to steal other boats.

Might help to go ahead and invade somalia for real this time....50,000 troops or so ought to do it. given the strategic position of somalia near the shipping lanes, its a pretty easy sell to convince UN/Nato to step in and do their fucking jobs (policing the world).

Problem is bigdog, what exactly are you invading? There is no established government, just separate fiefdoms ran by warlords. It would almost be like invading dozens of small countries, no minor feat I imagine.

I do agree a larger naval presence is definitely warranted. It's not like our Navy is tied up in Iraq or Afghanistan, send most of the fleet over there.
