Lawmakers asked hey, why are people getting sued for helping each other? We should have a law that protects GOOD samaritans. So they passed such a law and people were happy.

Then a new breed of dumbasses came along, toked on doobs, drank pitchers of booze, and TRIED to be good samaritans. Of course they sucked at it and whined when they got sued for being BAD Samaritans. MaBell defends them.

That's one way of thinking, Bacon. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people, like YOU, who don't THINK about the long term ramifications of their actions. For a perfect example, let's consider the MILLIONS of people (in this country alone) who hear about that story. Do you honestly think they're gonna spend a good amount of time researching this story and finding out in particular why this case went forward? No. They won't. Plain and simple.

Yes, it's an all around unfortunate situation, but regardless of whether the people were intoxicated or not, they followed their instinct to do the right thing. Of course, I'm quite sure that had they done nothing, and something worse happened, the lady would have been just as quick to sue them for not doing anything either. But, of course, that is just speculation, and we'll never really know, because situations play themselves out once and only once. Not like a video game where you can learn through trial and error, and then respawn.

What does this mean, you ask. Simple. What it means is that the people who do hear about it, and even the ones that have the ability to be good samaritans, will store this little piece of information away in their heads, to be considered another one of those, 'That's fucked up" stories, and go about their business. Then, some time later, it could be a day, a week, a month, or years down the road, they will come across an accident scene of whatever nature, and they will immediately flash back to this story and say to themselves, "Well, fuck that, I'm not gonna be the next statistic" and go about their merry business. Granted, not all of them. But even if it's ONE person, then this story has done enough damages.

It doesn't matter what the bottom line is. It doesn't matter who was right, or who was wrong in this story. All that matters is that people will pass what little they know of this story to others, and that will be that. This is the case with many, many stories that people never hear the truth about. They form their own opinions based on little or no facts, and that then affects decisions they make in the future. Pearl Harbor is a prime example. Did we really not know that the Japenese were going to attack? Did we really not instigate the whole situation to begin with? Or was our government really trying to instigate an attack to get us into the war, and act shocked about it in an attempt, successful though it was, to get the entire nation behind them to enter World War II and fight the "good" fight?

Ok, how about a simple everyday lie that the local governments tell their communities? How about that dangerous intersection, or blind corner, in YOUR town, where there are wrecks almost everyday. But nobody dies from them, they just get maimed for life. And everyone KNOWS that there should be a stop sign, or a stop light, but nothing is done....until someone dies from it. Then they're all about putting a traffic control device in place. Unfortunately, someone had to unnecessarily die to motivate people to do something they know they should have done in the first place.


But I know, you have an answer for everything and you're always right. So, please, bore me with your lawyer arguments.
