...people assume all gamers are the same.
Been talking to this girl, and I told her that I was playing CS:S. She was surprised and said, "Really? You don't seem like the type." I asked her what she meant and when she explained it it was actually kinda insulting. So according to her, in order for me to like playing computer games I have to be fat, have acne, have a bad haircut, and have no friends. WELL, I had to explain to her that I play computer games because ONE: I can no longer play lacrosse, or any other sport that requires alot of running, due to a leg injury. TWO: I got laid off and have nothing to do while my friends are at work. And THREE: I'm competitive, whether it be beer pong, lacrosse, or anything else that you can play with other people. I just happened to find ESports and it fills that gap. Fucking stereotypes

Theres no such thing as a stereotypical gamer anymore...sure you'll still see some of the older stereotypes...the fat kid whose fingers are covered in cheetos and doesn't bathe...but regardless of gaming..thats what that kid would be doing.
Over the past couple of years...its become almost impossible to tell whos a gamer..or even a computer nerd nowadays.

I have to agree about no more stereotypical gamers anymore albeit certain types of games do seem to draw a certain type of player, the widespread proliferation of the "net" and game genres have crossmingled and blurred the lines. For example, MY WIFE( dustyCaliber) is a TTP reservist and listed as a moderator here and a founding clan member of SsT, she has not been gaming as long as I have but has logged more hours and earned more kudos online, so to reiterate the point, computer gaming , especially online gaming is becoming more mainstream.

Heck ya it's not just for kids anymore if old farts like myself can get addicted. And there are more than a few of us now playing. I just luv these shooting games(got hooked originally on BF2 but now play mostly BF2142 and COD4). I know what you mean thou, when I tell people I play online games they look at me funny.
