It is because the folks who watched those movies as kids now have kids of their own. Transformers and Superman anyone? GI Joe is coming out as a movie and all the superhero movies kinda throw back to the old X-Men cartoon days.

They want your money and think you will take your kids or go on your own to relive your 'childhood'.

A few of those are different, though.

Transformers and GI Joe were never made into movies...until recently.

Same with X-Men.

The new Superman movie was ok...but still doesn't compare to the Reeve films.

I just watched the trailer for "The Karate Kid" and it made me cringe...that's how embarrassingly bad it is.

it doesnt really look like a remake to me. it looks like a completely different everything. I will treat it as a completely different movie and because of that it looks like a pretty decent movie.
