Shatter,
What the author is describing is also related to a TTP book club discussion that is in the beginning stages. If you would like to participate we have a thread at http://www.texasteamplayers.com/index.php?topic=51036.0

Wow, wake up to reality. Seriously thats being frugal. No wonder there going belly up. Sorry the dog groomer is going broke but seriously, is it really necassary. Yeah the economy they(yankees) rely on is false. Real economy is based on agriculture and the production of REAL goods. I was explaining this to my wife the other day. Things like manicures and mid-level restraunts all go down. Lifes a bitch. Learn to deal with it. I have been a tight ass since way before the economic crunch. I am well prepared to weather the storm.

That article is a bit extreme, but like flame stated its totally necessary. Why someone would base their entire financial means on something that's typically seen as an uneeded treatment or luxory is completely mind boggling.
I don't see why people don't expect more of a drop in said businesses, i bought a $40 set of Wahl brand clippers 2 years ago and never looked back, given a high and tight is quite a bit easier than say a female hair-style, but i'd expect at a "girls night out" one could easily do each others hair for little to no money.
I know my business is one that is part of the foundation of America and while we've faced tough times as well, we'll never have to say "time to sell" as long as we stay tight pocketed and make smart production decisions when their applicable.

haircuts actually aren't expensive for me i usually let my hair grow out pretty long though and then get it cut like once a year unless i need to cut it for work etc.
but it maybe costs like $25 dollars a year if i cut ever 6 months or so
