Makes the textures on the skins and models stand out more, makes it look more detailed than it actually is.

yeah....it's like shadows being cast....even though in reality, the texture is flat. But, depending on the angle you look at it, the texture will ....change it's appearance to look like it has shadows on it.

it's all over the place in CS too, if you have a good enough card to see that sort of thing.
