    Politics of fear

The politics of fear appear to be alive and well.

On hesitations of passing the trillion dollar spendulous package:

"This recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse,"

Same tactics that Bush was ridiculed for.

They also said that TARP was probably a first step and that more stimulus packages would be needed. The present debate is related to the first of the more packages.

Obama hasn't changed, his message hasn't changed, and the media apparently hasn't changed. The media is still trying to make news where there isn't any.

The difference is that Bush was repeatedly attacked for employing the politics of fear.

I dont see those attacks being carried forward as the behavior is.

    Odd.

That's correct. I can speak of my perspective if we start splitting hairs. My major problem with Bush was his employment of fear in the context of the War on Terror and using fear to enter Iraq (WMD's) and pass the PATRIOT Act.

I think Bush was telling the truth with regard to a scary economic outlook. I never docked him credibility points for that.

    Re: Politics of fear

depends on the facts to support it. If Bush, McCain, Obama, Pelosi, Paul whoever said the econmy going to have all these problems and independent economist agreed then i wouldn't consider it using fear to achieve a goal. Now if its just talking and no-one with any expierence and background of economics, then its just using fear for political gain.

    Re: Politics of fear

Are there independant economists saying that this spending bill is necssary to save our economy and that we may not recover if it isn't passed? Is there anything other than Obama demanding that this pork infested, election payback, left winger wish list be passed or we are all doomed?

Motoz, regardless of which subjects you agree with, I think the message during the campaign was that Obama was a change from the politics of fear, and here he is blatantly employing the tactic 2 weeks after he starts.
