It's amazing the simple things that can really make someone's day. As an EMT I go to nursing homes A LOT, and I always make it a point to smile and give some kind of greeting to the residents as I'm walking by. It's nice to know I can brighten someone's day up by my smile.

Heh, usually when I'm on the job and somebody meets me they're having a really bad day..
