Re: Next Purchase? -Anything Useful at BestBuy?
There are certain things that are overpriced in Best Buy. Mainly Cables, bags, accessories, the little things. Items such as Computers Best Buy actually loses money on...in fact every retailer does. Its just the way the retail computer market has gone.
Best Buy loses about $140 on every computer it sells (in order to stay in line with it's competitor's prices) but they make up for it by offering Geek Squad services. Ever wonder why the Standard Setup and Protect package is $129?
Services are also another are people say Best Buy is overpriced in. While I would agree that some things seem expensive, especially for people who know how to fix viruses and such, is that we all tend to shop out of our own pocket. We know it doesn't take us geeks that much money to fix a computer, a reformat and we're done....but a lot of people don't know how to do that kind of stuff and thats what Geek Squad offers.
$200 can seem like a lot for repairs/diagnostics, however like I've mentioned in earlier posts it depends on the machine. I've had machines I've fixed in under 2 hours that we charged $200 for and I've had machines that took me a solid week to fix/diagnose, and not for lack of know-how...some viruses suck and people don't want to reformat their machines (or rather don't want to pay for the backup and the hassle of going through it).
As far as your question, as posted earlier, you can buy something with the $20 giftcard, then return it and they'll put it back on a giftcard for you (since they can't give you cash back from paying with a giftcard).
Just be aware that there are certain items that you cannot return when opened (software and other things of that nature).
That will at least get you another giftcard that won't expire for a while. If you want any other loopholes, send me a PM...I know 99% of them.
