This is true but I personally couldn't vote for it due to my own beliefs.
My Hubby works at a hospital and I can tell you that OVER half the staff would be :9 for this. Which is kinda scary since these people are taking care of our health care needs.
Just goes to show that people can work in a well respected industry and still get the job done.

So California is spending more taxpayer dollars trying to get a bill passed through the state. Since when does a state law trump a federal law.....?

Just like when California legalized medical marijuana and the feds went in there and confiscated all their plants and arrested them and charged them with federal trafficking.....

State laws do not trump federal laws.

The legalization/decriminalization of marijuana would result in a $65 Billion/year industry. This is not only on the portion of the plant that people smoke, but also because the industry would likely take over many other industries. Lumber, paper, clothing material, and various oils are all derivatives of hemp, and often times, are more durable and efficient. Not to mention the money saved from our criminal justice system.

I churned out a 26-page paper on the effects (both positive and negative) of legalization back in my college days. I'll see if I can't find it somewhere, if anyone is interested.

Actually Commander...that's kind of a gray area....The original founders of our country wanted states-rights to trump federal law. That's kind of what the Civil War was all about. There are a lot of technicalities, but look at California's Medicinal Marijuana laws...they are technically illeagal, yet the dispensaries are still open. There are more examples of states-rights opposing federal law popping up every day, with gay marriage, abortion, and drugs.

As for legalization, there is good and bad on both sides.Look at Amsterdam. They "tolerated" a lot of the softer drugs, but it became a haven for the harder ones. They are now cutting back on their "tolerance" because of the trash it has brought in.On the other side...It has been proven that cannibis is no worse for you than alcohol...and if it helps someone who is dying of cancer, how could anyone be against that?

We ban people for inappropriate content. While we should pretty much always be able to surf to TTP from home, if we start getting noticed for inappropriate content on our forums, we could start being blocked at schools and work places. Potemkine just posted last week that he can no longer get to TTP due to the category "gaming" filter being applied.

While at work, I can't get to several legitimate sites to get software tools that I could use to help me do my job since they are perceived as hacking websites/software.

We keep having stupid stuff posted, all it takes is one complaint to the right people and its game over. The people that make the filtering software may not explicitly know about us yet. But one email and we get added to their list, boom, there goes TTP's day life. The college kids will probably still be ok. The people at home will still be ok. But people in public school and at many larger places of employment can easily find themselves blocked.

Pornography, drugs, and other high sensitive topics just put us on a short path to getting nuked.

talking about illegal drugs, and legislation to legalize it....is totally another.  and given the majority minor population we have frequenting this place, it is NOT a conversation that can be had civilly, or without drawing the wrong kind of flags and attention TTP does NOT want to get.
