itunes was built for noobs (masses). They want to keep it as simple as possible for a reason. And like kraker said to help stop copyright infringements.

You don't need itunes to use an ipod. I use media monkey because itunes sucks so much. The libraries auto sync to folders, my biggest itunes annoyance. Way more user friendly. I personally bought an ipod nano because to me it had the best interface out of the ones I tried. I never planned on using itunes from day one.

I've used itunes since I got my ipod only because I wasn't in the headspace to find an alternative and I've hated it since. I've heard good things about mediamonkey and just installed it and I'm already happy with the interface. I absolutely hate itunes in every shape and form of it. Thanks for bringing this up!

I found an app to export my tunes from my pod to my hdd. Cut and dry.
