    here's a shocker

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will join Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in opposing any effort to revive the 1994 assault weapons ban, putting them on the opposite side of the Obama administration.

Reid spokesman Jim Manley said the Nevada Democrat will preserve his traditional pro-gun rights voting record.

“Senator Reid would oppose an effort (to) reinstate the ban if the Senate were to vote on it in the future,” Manley told The Hill in an e-mail late Thursday night.

It was not immediately clear whether Reid would block the bill from the Senate, but his opposition casts serious doubt on its chances. Also, Manley noted that Reid voted against the ban in 1994 and again when it expired in 2004.

Reid’s stance joins him with Pelosi, who told reporters Thursday that the administration had not checked with her before Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters the administration would attempt to reinstate the ban. Pelosi gave a flat “no” when asked if she had spoken to Holder or any other administration officials about the issue.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it’s clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

Outside of the dig at the recent Republican president, that phrase is the stock line of those who don’t want to pass new gun control laws, such as the National Rifle Association.

I still think Nancy Pelosi is a vampire, but I think she might be on our side

I don't think that's the case. It's a political move. My take is they don't want a repeat of losing control, largely attributed to the last ban.

A number of House Democrats lost their seats after being targeted by the National Rifle Association for voting for the 1994 ban.

Utah delegation balks at Obama's push for assault-weapons ban

Washington » Utah congressmen are taking issue with the Obama administration's call for a new assault-weapons ban, saying it interferes with the public's right to bear arms and won't reduce crime.

The ban expired in 2004 after being in place for 10 years. In a news conference Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder said: "As President [Barack] Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons."

Holder believes the ban would help curb the flow of guns into Mexico, which is seeing increased drug-cartel-related violence.

Utah Reps. Jim Matheson, a Democrat, and Rob Bishop, a Republican, are part of a 10-member task force on gun rights in the House that almost immediately promised to stand in the way of any attempts at a new ban.

"It looks as though with this announcement we've been handed our first big fight," Matheson said.

"I hope this administration doesn't feel a need to resurrect every bad idea," Bishop said. "Bringing this useless ban back is a terrible idea, and we will vigorously oppose it with bipartisan backing."

To think of all the money the gun dealers are raking in because of all the mark ups. Silly people. The dealers should be thankful for Obama.

i know and talk with a couple or employees at local gun shops who i have become friends with.

almost all of them absolutely despise Obama

(this is an analogy to represent the buisness aspect, not the politics or logic, so do not quote this you skanks) --think of it as the governement requiring vegetarian diet for all people, McDonalds would make huge amounts due to the influx of demand, but after it passed they would all sit around twiddling their thumbs like, "DURRRHHH what do we do now?" "ohh i know! lets start smuggling meat in and selling it the the deviants who still want to eat it!"
