true i think the beating was totally uncalled for from the video ive seen put forth here. but, you have to remember, what happened to land her in jail in the first place? All you saw was a minute of her being put in the cell then getting beatin. You have no idea what happened 10-20-30 minutes before that. For all you know maybe she's been spitting in there faces, vandalizing their cruisers, throwing objects at the officers. Im sure theres a lot more to this girl. But, if there isn't, then everything in this video is totally b.s. and the guy needs to be fired and placed in jail himself.

It does not matter what she did she is still a human being and should be given her fair day in court. That cop took justice into his own hands and it should not be tolerated. Thats why they call it "excessive force" There was no serious threat, bad attitude yes, threat no. When we allow this to take place, we give up our freedom and say "what ever the govt wants we will live with." When your freedom, money, guns, bible etc. are taken away, because the police said so, will you speak up then. It is the same thing, when one branch of govt takes matters into there own hands and does not allow the due course of govt to take place freedoms are lost. It is happening right before your very eyes and you refuse to believe it. This is but one small example of abuse of power there is a great big abuse of power going on in washington right now......

Re: Deputy beats down 15 year old

the thing i'm against here is how many people look to use Situational ethics ("its only wrong in SOME cases") to decide. It doesn't matter what she did prior, it doesn't matter if its a 15yo girl or a 25yo drunk both shoud be restrained if they pose a threat, not beat and bloodied. If you did that, even if someone attack you first you know what would happen? you would go to jail. So why can an police officer do it and it be okay?

EDIT: Had to fix mental laspe which caused me to put in the wrong theory

actually it does matter what she did previous to getting in jail. What if she was put in there for ramming her car into a cop car over and over trying to kill him. what if she was put in there for stabbing an officer and now he is in critical condition. I think then they would have every right to take whatever means necessary to get her in cuffs and under control.

But, still, it doesn't seem like this is what happened and he did go way over board. But, you never know the circumstances of what happened previous to this video.

At the scene of the crime you could have a case, but not afterwards, in a holding cell where (haven't been in one so correct me if i'm wrong) the suspect would not have a weapon such as a vehicle or knife. Not to mention what happened is different from restraining. Lets say you stab someone and i see you do it, then 30 minutes later i see you at the park and beat the crap out of you when you are now posing no threat. Is that fair? Would i get away with that? Answer is No, i'd get charged for a crime and likely sued by the person no matter the crime they committed.

Her and a friend stole a car. That's what landed her in jail.

Oh, then that changes everything. From the video it looked like she was going in innocently or something. Still. mixed feelings.

if a person poses a big enough threat to a cop, on the street or in jail, and has the ability to cause potential life threatening damage i would then think they could pretty much take whatever means necessary to apprehend the person.

maybe im wrong but thats how i think
