Aren't some states requiring universal community service to graduate highschool? I sort of like that idea...

Btw, illegal aliens do pay into social security unlike what that guy said but don't have the benefit to receive payments.

Also, many americans don't pay into social security but still qualify for the minimum amount of the benefit.

I would rather it be non-mandatory but still earn the student credits toward graduating high school. Voluntary service should stay voluntary and not mandatory. Some countries have mandatory military service as well, but I wouldn't want to see that here either, though it does help a lot of folks here who join voluntarily.
