Me thinks Conficker is good for business.

well lets put it this way, most of the major news organizations were freaking out about it destroying computers on april 1st, most of them were (i.e. 60 minutes) basically articles sponsored by companies like Norton (i know not the actually company but i ain't trying to spell it out). Where as security blogs and sites generally visited by more security conscious people (like a lot of us here) where playing down the threat and giving facts about how we don't know what its going to do, it likely won't act on the 1st. They explained how it will work etc. Most of them were from facts collected and not anti-virus companies.

Sooo....the crappy mainstream anti-virus companies used it to create panic and sell their product (look Norton catches Conficker, sure it doesn't catch anyother shit, but CONFICKER!!!!!) to the "dumb" public, while those who understand at least somewhat about computer security realized how much crap was being pushed
