Re: 60 minutes makes my job hard
...bahahaha.
Wow. I just never knew! That there are these evil little bits of "creepy, crawly toxic software that contaminate our computers without our ever knowing it." That invade our homes and our computers while we sleep!!! Oh, and they're also terrorist spies. "It's that ominous."
See, whenever people ask me why I can't take most mainstream news media seriously any more? This is why.

Re: 60 minutes makes my job hard
an example:
3:19:48 PM [C] now with this new virus thats suppose to go to every computer around the united states, is my computer safe from getting the virus with the Shield Deluxe?
3:21:20 PM [Support Agent] There are thousands of new viruses being released every single day threatening every computer.
3:21:54 PM [C] but this virus is suppose to wipe out every computer
3:22:43 PM [Support Agent] That is what most of them say every day.
3:23:04 PM [C] is this virus just a april fools joke or what?
3:23:19 PM [Support Agent] I wouldn't worry about it.
3:23:35 PM [C] should i unplug the internet from my computer
3:23:42 PM [Support Agent] If you want to.
3:24:06 PM [C] well i just want to know what i should do to my computer so i wont get this virus
3:24:43 PM [Support Agent] Like I said I wouldn't worry about it.

well conficker is the next big threat that everyone is worried about.
Though, if you look at the history of worms, viruses, trojans etc. The big name ones usually have DoS a website, were coded crapply or other things that made them not terrible.
Worst i've read about is Jerusalem.
But the article pretty stupid. "see there are these things called viruses hackers try to use to steal data" no shit, they've been around since at least the 70's, in 30 years i think we'd know this by now.
i also loved "They can infect your computer even if you leave it on at night" Bullshit through and through. Only time that would happen is if it was like Blaster which sent to random IPs. Every other virus has a delivery method, usually through e-mail, xss or in the case of trojans, pretending to be a legit program.
By the way, if you wanted to **** with the guy, should of asked, "what new Virus?" "Conficker? Oh you mean the new worm, see viruses are <blah blah blah> while worms are <blah blah blah>"
haha i love that Stahl lady "its google fault cuz they don't tell us the linkz could get us infectedz" Well geeze, maybe if you used your damn brain, it wouldn't be as much of a problem. Just like i wouldn't walk through compton, i wouldn't go to a shady site. Plus there are programs like SiteAdvisor and WoT that tell you whats good, bad, etc based on user ratings or their program they use

Re: 60 minutes makes my job hard
Unfortunately the public is stupid. It's sad to say that there are millions of people out there that I would be suprised if they could find the power button on the computer. The majority here at TTP are fairly proficient at both computers and using the internet, thus what is common knowledge to us becomes taken for granted.
It does amaze me how stupid some people can be about the internet, but bottom line is that these people just don't know what's out there. They don't know, or want to know how the internet and software works, they just want it to work. They don't know about software that tells them what sites are safe or what's good or bad.
As much as I hate the media for blowing these things out of proportion, they're just doing the same thing they've always done; fearmongering for ratings.

i dod like how they think its going to suck bank passwords and junk. If it was going to do that, it would have done it well before april 1st. I'm thinking due to the secrecy of what it is set to do, it will like DoS a major site.
The only other thing, is i notice the article doesn't tell people about any tools to help (*cough* firefox *Cough* siteadvisor *cough* WoT */cough*) so basically making the job of techies harder cuz all people are doing now is just "ZOMGZ!!! HOW I PROTECTZ ME COMPUTERZ FROM DIS DER VIRUS!!!!" Of course none of them realizes if they don't know how to protect their computer from one worm, they already have thousands of them anyways.
