Re: Giving Blood...
Iv given blood before but I dont enjoy the experiance. Vivid imagination and the thought of blood coming out of me isnt something I like. I will give blood but generaly I need peer pressure to get me to do it. I dont like needles but I just close my eyes and ignore it until its already in me, not much I can do then :P

Yup. Every time the bloodmobile comes 'round. (It's regularly scheduled the right amount of time apart at my company.)
I'm AB+. They say mine is critical, too. I think it comes down to they're chronically short of everything. My Dad got me into it when I was younger- he's in the 50-gallon-plus club, and has been giving blood for over 70 years.
As for my need, I got plasma after a knife wound but have never needed whole blood or packed cells. My Dad, however, did need a fair bit of the good stuff following a "mishap" during a "routine" procedure that tore an artery on his heart. He coded, lost consciousness, and thought he wasn't going to come to. But he did, and to this day he calls that his "re-birthday."

Re: Giving Blood...
I do not donate anymore. Not afraid of needles what so ever. When i was in the corps me being AB- i was used as a pincushion everytime they saw me. One time this dumbass corpsmen just doing a normal blood deal for they 6 month eval filled 1 vile. Then went to pop the second one on the needle pushed the needle tip thru my vein. Instead of pulling it out and doing it again he just sat there moving it around in my arm looking for the vein until a captain came over and told him to pull it back out.
The last straw for me was when the hurricanes came thru and everyone was giving blood. To the point there was to much for the red cross to keep. The hospitals didn't buy it and instead of just giving it to them so it wouldn't get wasted the red cross just threw it out.

18 years later...and I still can't donate.

something abut having blood drawn just is *shudder* to me. I should do it but just never can get myself to.
I have no idea what my blood type is. I've had my blood drawn at least once IIRC, because they thought i might have hep c., which i didn't. I think i did one other time for what i really don't remember. I run into the problem as well that its usually a pain to get the needle into my vain in the first place so sometimes i'll get pricked like 3-4 times before they start drawing. Had one doc ended up having to use the needles they normally would for giving shots.
Of course, granted if they paid me some money for it it would probably motivate me more to get over my dislike of getting blood drawn.
