For the cash?
So, I figured I would ask some people on here about this, seeing as its a simple question that I could use some outside opinion from.
My buddy David invited me to a new band he's forming.
However he told me it's that lame emo scene music (we both hate it)
When I asked why we were playing that, he said "For the cash, dude". Of course I laughed and said "What Cash?"
He then informed me that he talked to the people down at the Compound and the Rock House (two places downtown where minors can preform) and said that they pay $500 a gig (2-3 hours).
Then on top of that, $300 a month per bandmate for doing something that has completely escaped my mind. It was something simple, I remember that.
So, my question, for $125 a week + the claimed 300 a month, would you play for the money?

Re: For the cash?
Sounds like typical booking agent bullshit to me. I've done my time on the road, and it's a common practice, especially with younger bands. Get something in writing before you agree to anything, especially if you're going to sell out to do it. No point in selling your soul if you don't get shit for it.

Money is good, but playing music you hate never lasts long in my experience... You'll get fed up real fast, and that's not good for anyone. That said, I just might play for the money if I was hard up, and I was SURE it'd be coming. You'll be getting weekly gigs?
I play in 6 bands of various genres, and get called by a few others for shows/sessions, so there's always room for more so long as you know your shit, and can pull it off without much (if any) rehearsal.
Why is 'buddy dave' forming this band if he hates it? That's the real question. :P
