Victim described as 'tough' after takedown at Galveston bar

GALVESTON — Jacqueline Boss was dining Tuesday at the Float bar in Galveston with a friend when the thief made his move.
Police and relatives say that Boss, a Galveston resident, was sitting with her friend, Heidi Lawrence, in the tavern at 28th Street and Seawall Boulevard when a man standing at the bar attracted her attention.
The 44-year-old Boss had been watching the man about 20 feet away. He hadn’t ordered a drink and appeared to be faking a conversation on a cell phone, said her mother, Jeannette Westerman.
“She never took her eye off him,” Westerman said.
Lawrence went to the restroom, leaving her purse on the table, and the man snatched it, Boss’ mother said. But the 5-10, 250-pound Boss was right behind him as he jumped over a 5-foot fence behind the Float. She felt her leg snap as she hit the ground but managed to grab the man’s shirt, spinning him around and causing him to fall, Westerman said.
Five men nearby saw the man fall and pinned him to the ground before he could get away.
After police arrived, a woman whose purse had been snatched from the nearby Tortuga Restaurant about an hour before identified the same man as the culprit.
Joshua Griffin, 21, of Galveston, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, was charged with two counts of theft and was released from the Galveston County Jail on Wednesday after posting bail on a $5,000 bond.
The Galveston accountant was recovering Thursday at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center from an operation to mend her right leg, snapped in half just below the knee. Westerman, speaking from her daughter’s hospital room, said, “She’s very tough. She’s a very strong woman.”

The part that concerns me about this is he posted bond. If there are several people that can verify it was your dumb ass that did it you shouldn't be able to post bond. You should be held until your trial. On another note that is a big girl to go over a 5 ft fence. I had a hard enough time trying to get my wife to hold a section of fence up long enough for me to nail it to the post much less get her to go over it. I give her props self sacrifice to stop a jerk off from getting away. Good story.

also its not a surprise, imo, she broke her leg. I'm taller and likely more fit but still i use to weight around 230 and a jump wayy shorter then 5ft can put a beating on your leg
