Re: I got your torture right here.
I remember a country that not only condoned torturing it's enemies, but they also did research on prisoners to "learn a little bit more about the human psyche, and get something useful out of it all at the same time"........ I seem to recall Nazi Germany.
Anyway, torture isn't a very reliable means of gathering intelligence. You're just as likely to get a bullshit response from the dude you're torturing as information you're after. People will generally say and do most anything to get the pain to stop.
A zealot will deliberately lie to you rather than betray his cause. A guy that just doesn't know will lie to you because he doesn't know, but sure would like you to stop hurting him. A guy that actually does know might lie to you anyway, just to spite you.
Obviously torture wouldn't still be around if it wasn't effective at least some of the time, but it's so inefficient that I'd hardly condone it, especially not when we're constantly parading around Earth, presenting ourselves as paragons and trying to convince everyone we exemplify what everyone else should aspire to be.
Torture itself is mostly just the process of forcing an unwilling victim to endure physical and/or mental pain/anguish with the goal of forcing them to divulge information.
Pulling fingernails and teeth, breaking bones and severing tendons, and listening to Lady GaGa are all classic examples of torture that can cause traumatic injuries to both body and mind.
