    Re: Thoughts on cutters

Hmm, whenever I get hurt or anything I just think of something completely non related to my issue and try and truly concentrate on it.

Oh well, thanks for explaining it to me.
Me: "But the Gunslinger is so much more fun..."
Langrad: "We're here to win, not to..."
    Me: "Have fun?" "Hahaha"

It's like cracking your knuckles, or riding a roller coaster or watching a scarey movie, but more extreme. Usually they don't cut extremely deep, just enough to prick the pain receptors which causes an autonomic adrenaline response which gives a kind of euphoria or elevated sense of awareness that can be pleasurable... much like the jump and scare of a horror flick or the rush of a roller coaster. It's basically a twisted way to get an adrenaline rush.. as opposed to hang gliding, sky diving, etc.

Seriously? Why is this even being discussed here?

Predictions for this thread as follows:

    1. You'll have people telling you to do the sensible thing and get her some professional help.

    2. You'll have people telling your emo girlfriend to stop crying in dark rooms and deal with it.

    3. This thread will be locked.

What are you trying to accomplish here? Garner sympathy for your girlfriend's situation? Not bloody likely. I personally know, off the top of my head, at least 20 people who I will bet massive amounts of money on have had to deal with worse shit than whatever she's dealing with, and have pulled it off without doing anything as stupid as slicing themselves up.

Get her some help, but do her and yourself a favor and keep it off public forums.

I have to agree. This isn't a topic that needs to be discussed at TTP. It needs to be discussed with your GF and a psychiatrist.

    Re: Thoughts on cutters

    Very interesting.....

I watch the show "Intervention" and they had a cutter on there. I have also had some friends that were cutters. Arreo is correct in every way. It is a drug that releases endorphins in the brain much like someone that plucks their hairs, and I mean every hair on their body because of the feeling. It is very much like a drug and they can harm themselves severely. She is not crazy to say the least so don't think that. She does need some therapy help though... and stand beside her if you like her that much

When you have a problem, you turn to people you consider friends and/or people's opinion whom you trust. If that's a buddy you call.. fine.. if that's people on a forum.. well that's fine too.

Agreed, if this is a place where he feels comfortable with friends to ask such a question then i would be glad to share my thoughts. If I thought this was at all a non-TTP subject then I would also say so. This is a problem that does need addressing though and really not with any of us. I see your quest for opinions and I respect that.
