Alice in Chain's most underrated songs come off the Sap ep. God I love Chris Cornell backing Layne on "Right Turn"
The thing is with Alice in Chains, is Staley was never the main guy, Cantrell was. Most of the songs were written by Jerry in someway or another. This is much different from Nirvana where Kurt Cobain was the creative force in the band.

If I'm not mistake it was probably closer to a 70% Cantrell / 30% Staley mix for lyrics. 90% (at a very minimum) of the music was written by Cantrell. 90% (at a minimum) of vocals were performed by Staley.

I imagine that nearly none of the Thriller album was written (lyrically or musically) by Jacko. Does that mean that Jermain, Tito, or any other singer could fill his shoes?

Calling themselves Alice in Chains without Layne Staley's vocals would be similar to the Guns N Roses touring without Axle Rose. It just doesn't work.

I don't know. Queen+Paul Rogers is working pretty well. They have a different sound for sure, but it's not a bad one.

I loved Dirt for the edge, but Jar of Flies was also my favorite. It had a sorrowful kind of groove that I loved... and it has Nutshell on it...that says it all.

They can pull it off as long as Cantrell continues to do as much of the singing as he did when Layne was alive.. Even when Layne was signing front-man, Cantrell was doin backup.. and his voice is distinctive enough to carry it. Plus Cantrell did a fair amount of front-man singing himself.

William DuVall is the new singer, look up videos of him singing. I think he is damn good and I would personally enjoying a concert with him singing.
