WOW! That fucker is loud, and the really good kind of loud. And from what I hear they're relatively cheap. Any recommendations on where to buy one, I think I'll pick it as my first gun.

Well the most inexpensive way is getting a Curio and Relic firearms license ($30 buck processing fee) and ordering it online to be sent to your house. Many online places have them, though I would not pay more than $100 bucks for a standard Russian 91/30. There are several types out there made by many countries, if you plan on shopping around locally then I suggest you go to....

... to review the different markings and types as this will give you more insight about the value of the firearm. Finnish models are almost always more accurate, Chinese almost always look like they were on the bottom of the ocean at some point. I own two 91/30s, one made just before WW2 (1940 Tula manufacture) and one made during the war (1943 Izhevsk) and even between those two there is a difference in fit, function and quality.

Be careful or the bug will bite you and you will start looking for every single model and country.

By the way, the loudest are usually the M38s and M44s as they are carbine length and the shorter barrel length also makes them have a nice fireball that can be seen when shooting at dusk or dawn. I bought 440 rounds of surplus ammunition for mine for 80 dollars at the Knob Creek gun shoot and you can normally catch it at that price. It comes in a 'spam can' that was made for long term storage and must be opened like a can of sardines.
