What's the difference? I don't think the urge to suck a cock or pound a hairy ass has any impact on anyone's aim. I mean you still hit what you are aiming at, at the gun range don't you Con?

Straight or gay, there will always be meatgazers in the shower.... you are correct gumby, it is a lame excuse.
    OMG
the end is nigh! Hawgballs and I agreed on something! Everyone needs to get a 6 month supply of food and water QUICK!

    lol.
How does anyone construe this to be an Obama policy? That's just D.U.M. dumb.
I am opposed to most of Obama's stated positions on a lot of issues, but give the guy a break. Even if he does intend to change this policy, it has to be fairly low on the priority list. We are fighting two wars and we are in the middle of a recession and the guy has only been in office a few months.

As for the way TRUE equality should work in the military, watch Starship Troopers. The people that joined the military -male, female, gay, straight, bi, whatever- all went through the exact same training, lived in the same barracks, were held to the exact same standards, and were not harassed or belittled by anyone because they all earned the exact same respect, together. There were no special exemptions for women or anyone else. THAT is true equality.
Too bad no one is really trying to achieve that.
    Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

They are a different breed, you have to believe youre bulletproof, its a very fragile mindset. In most cases in the military, I agree, theres no reason to really sweat someone being gay. The only time you do communal showering is in basic, and until KBR comes through and builds your shower stands near your CHUs. I think the bigger concern is the same reason they dont allow females into combat arms jobs. Head A conflicting with Head B, that can be a big problem in a combat environment. Im not insinuating that guys arent guys in the shit, but in a straight unit the worst thing you have to worry about is walking in on someone beating their meat though. You dont have worry about unrequited love, jealousy, all the bullshit that relationships and relationship building bring about. You need to keep your head on your job, not worry about wether you pissed off joe gay at chow and now he wont cover your six. Simplified, but does that make sense to anyone?
I was IN combat arms. Really, it wouldn't make a difference if gays were allowed to be open about their sexuality. Whether it is in the combat arms or in some pogue ass unit like the air-wing or MP's. I imagine that there have been many queers that served in combat arms that were just as effective if not more than some of the straight guys. Like I said, there were a few suspect queers, sure they had a lisp, and maybe they wore shorter PAT shorts than others, but they were highly capable of doing their jobs. One of them a Staff Sargent had no problems getting respect from those in his command, he was Team Leader of the 1st Regiment's Super Squad for machine gunners in 96 or 97 I think. But in the back of everyone's mind, he was still suspect, and it didn't make a fuck of a difference.

Well, if they would allow gay people to "out" themselves they wouldn't have to worry about who might be gay cause they would know for sure who is and who isn't... now the question is do the gay guys shower with the girls and vice-versa once they out themselves Gonna be a WHOLE LOTTA straight guys pretending to be gay haha! All the gay guys/girls showering together would be... uh... well, heck... how do they fix the shower issue?
