Re: P90x workout
P90x is a definitely a great program and one that you can use over and over. It is not a quick fix promising less than 10% bodyfat by working out 3 days a week for 20 minutes. One thing you need to make sure of is that you are in somewhat good shape. The workouts are very intense and you’ll find yourself unable to complete some of the exercises for the first couple of weeks at least.
It is suggested with the program to get a pull-up bar and dumbbells. You can also do the exercises with bands. The actual workouts are led by Tony Horton and last around an hour. Along with Tony, there are three people who each perform a different variation of a given exercise. For example, one person may be doing pull-ups with no assistance. One is doing pull-ups with a chair and one is not doing pull-ups at all, but is using resistance bands. Based upon the equipment you have and your ability, it gives you different options on how to complete a particular exercise.
The program has basically three different tracks – Classic, Doubles and Lean. Lean doesn’t do as much pull-ups and weights and is probably more directed towards women. Classic and Doubles are the same with the exception on the resistance days, Doubles has you doing cardio in the morning and then the workout in the afternoon. Once you have decided on a track, the workout is broken up in 3 – 30 day phases. You'll workout 6 days per week with the 7th day optional stretching exercises or just rest. Each of the three phases mix up the exercises to cause muscle confusion.
When doing the exercises, you can decide if you want to go lean (more reps) or work on building muscle (less reps). You’ll find out very quickly the rest period between exercises or sets is very short. By the way, the ab workout – Ab Ripper X, absolutely sucks and is painful – but in a good way.
Lastly, there is a diet program you will follow as well. As with any exercise routine, diet is key.
I know there are quite a few actual user videos on You Tube where they have filmed themselves doing the dvd’s – that will give you somewhat of an idea as to the exercises.
Hope this helps – good luck!
