I have no problem with GTMO detainees being brought to the US if its decided that the US is going to close the detention center in GTMO.

My problem is with them being placed into the US court system as if they were common criminals. You can't make sweeping statements on this subject, as there are people who don't belong in GTMO, and there are people in GTMO who have no business enjoying the rights of a US citizen as they are terrorists.

None of these guys are anything compared to the confines of supermax, and there are many dangerous jihadists withering away in US jails.

Unless of course they get a lawyer like that Lynn Stewart, the liberal zealot in NY with the blind sheik. Rat lawyers.

    I can accept your position.

Even though I would prefer to scrap the tribunals part, I think the priority is to get rid of Gitmo. If the tribunals reflect a somewhat fair trial and gets this shit over with expeditiously, then I guess I will have to swallow the tribunals.

Thanks for dispelling the crazy notion that if they are detained in the continental US it means they will be released a la Jake and Elwood Blues.

I guess we would have to do some serious reading to spell out what the actual differences are, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the burden of proof is much lower for the tribunals, probably more liberal in what would be allowed as evidence, and over all less chance of being let off on a technicality that is viable when arresting a bank robber in the United States, but not in the middle of a war zone.

Treat them like the combatants that they are if you have proof that holds water in a tribunal.

Afterwards, let them live out their days in solitary confinement right here in Virginia for all I care. Its the best anti-jihad I have seen to date. Probably (take a screenshot) better than a firing squad or hanging, as it wreeks havoc on their martyrdom factor.

Re: Soldier Killed in Drive by

My father was the warden of the "Intensive Management Unit" at the Oregon State Pen. He brought home some videos to discourage my brother and me from wrongdoing... Let me tell you, ain't no one gettin' out of there unless we want them to.

Isolated in your own private cell on a big wall of cells, with the officers in the "Thunder Dome" watching your every move from the opposite wall, behind plexiglass where they control your light, temperature, and air. Sure you can talk to the guy next to you by standing at the metal wall with holes drilled in it and yelling...but that's gotta suck. And if you get outta line...say bend your metal table or something (since it is the only thing you can vandalize) six guys who are specially trained in detaining you come down and kick your ass. A half hour a day to play handball in a 10'x10' room by yourself for exercise. That's it.

Yeah my dad was hoot to grow up with...

Back on topic, has anyone heard any updates to this story? I'm waiting to see if they'll actually release the name of the suspect they have in custody (which would pretty much mean a death sentence for the fucker).
