    For starters you don't get a CC shirt when you start working there, you wear a white polo shirt so they know you're new lol. You have to earn the red shirt and in order to do so you need to sell a certain amount per hour, sell a certain amount of warranties, accessories and PC services and have a low return rate on the items you've sold. If even one of those wasn't at the goal then you couldn't get it and they reset them every month. I found out later on that the supervisors have the ability to take one persons sale and put it under someone else's name which is something that happened quite often. No matter how much you sold, you NEVER got commission out of it and yet the boss is on your ass about reaching the goal for the store for the day. My boss was always on my ass about how I could never manage to convince people to buy a $300 warranty....go figure...who wants to spend an extra $300 for something you wont use unless you're a complete idiot. I always met the goals for everything BUT the warranties so he some how thought I wasn't approaching customer lol. Just like you are trying to reach your goals, so is everyone else so a lot of the times you had someone butt in on your sale and end up taking it from you which was total bull shit. The only people that got commission in the store were the people who sold TV's and all that home entertainment stuff but the ONLY way they could get commission is if each and everyone of them met a goal that was set for their section, each one had to sell a certain amount of money's worth of TV's as well as accessories, home installations, and warranties. If all but ONE person didn't meet the goal NO ONE would get the bonus.

    I'm sure this is the case with most other places as well but most of the people that were hired didn't know ANYTHING about electronics and when I mean nothing I mean, they didn't even know how to turn a computer off. Also, there was one chick who put her two weeks in and before the 2 weeks were over my boss fired her....you can't fire people once they've put their 2 weeks in. And the last thing is that every time you check in or out you had to put in your social security number in. they're only allowed to ask for your last 4 digits but at CC they made you put the entire number in every time you logged in or out.

    One day I sold a little over a thousand dollars worth in warranties alone, and my boss came to congratulate me and shook my hand, next day I didn't sell any warranties on anything I sold and he came up to me and was like "remember that hand shake and congratulations I gave you? well......I take it back" haha, the sad part is he's stuck working at Lowes now XD

    Yeah, I applied at Firedog one time, and they explained how they have certain ... "quotas"... that I would be expected to maintain as far as upgrades and warranties.

    Yeah, F*that...they offered me a job but I turned it down....I didn't want to have to upsell some grandma who barely uses email on an extra 2gig of ram.

    that's why I've never wanted to work at the local guitar stores. I love learning, and already know a lot about the equipment, but I don't feel like slinging the same lo quality gear to everyone because they pay the store more money or some shit.

    One of our local ski shops is the same way....I went in there like 4 times over 8 years and every time they tried to sell me the same overhyped Burton POS, despite the fact that I got better and probably grew a foot.

    CC shouldn't ever return to box store because they were shit when they were. At least Best Buy its a little bit easier to find something in the store.

    Still wish Comp USA was around (i think they went under? forget) Just because they sold ass loads of computer games and no-one but staff ever seemed to populate the store, so very nice.

    Yeah our comp usa went out of business too, it was one of the few places you could actually find parts that only online retailers sold.

    @scoot

    Aggressive sales tactics are outdated, and people who respond to them are to blame for keeping them alive.

    Seriously, there is no logical place left for the "salesman" and I couldn't be happier. No matter WHAT I want to buy in life (be it a car, a TV, a computer, or a washing machine), I can get on the internet and in a short matter of time find out what model I want and how much I am willing to pay for it. And for most of those things I can have them delivered to my front door 2 days later for less money than I'd pay in a local store. What's not to like about that?

    Unfortunately for something big like a car I still usually have to deal with a salesman... but as much of a PITA as that is, it is also fun to show them how little power they have over me when I hold the money and the motive.

    And lets not forget the sales tax. 7.5% here in the land of 10,000 taxes Minnesota. When I bought my tv,I did all the research through the internet,and had it shipped to my door for less than what BB was asking for it....even before the price was jacked by 7.5%.

    Yea....that's what I had applied for initially but they told me I had to keep my sales up as well. I didn't have my A+ certification and even though they tested me and saw that I knew what I was doing they said there was no room back there for another one and seeing as how they are their highest paid employee's they don't want to just put any body back there. They told me I could however be a salesman, work very closely with the firedogs for about a month and then I could be a tech but a month went by and nothing.....then another and still nothing a third and still nothing so I quit.

    Yea...you're right. Most of the time that I went up to people they seemed SO annoyed that I was even bothering to ask them if they needed help, they either just wanted to take a look at things or they already knew what they wanted. It just so happened that they were looking at something that CC didn't make much money on so I was supposed to try and persuade them to purchase a laptop that CC actually earned some money off of but no....they wanted that other one and that was it. Like I said on my previous post....don't even think about asking them to purchase the warranty because of course they weren't going to want them. They would go off on some story telling me how they realized they're worthless and over priced and never needed them so it was a waste of money and I don't blame them. I NEVER bought a warranty on anything I bought there throughout the entire time I worked there. You give them an extra 300 for what? lol
