    Summer Tranfer Thread

We should have enough soccer people to keep a transfer thread going, if not ill do it by my damn self. anyways the Transfer news

Manchester United make bids for Antonio Valencia
    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...376544,00.html

It was reported at the weekend that Premier League champions United and Primera Liga giants Real Madrid had bid in excess of £16million for the Ecuadorian.

Real - who have had a world-record £80m bid for United's Cristiano Ronaldo accepted - have since stated that they have not shown an interest in Valencia since January.

However, Whelan has declared that United have been in contact with JJB Stadium officials for the past two to three months and that they have also submitted initial offers.

He told Sky Sports News when asked about Valencia: "They (United) have been in touch with us and we will be starting negotiations very shortly, I would imagine.

"United have been in touch with us over Antonio for the last two or three months, expressing an interest and actually putting cash offers on the table.
    Robinho to Barca?
Domestic and European champions Barcelona stole the plaudits last season for some stunning football and for all of Real's lavish spending, buccaneering Brazilian full-back Alves believes his side will top the pile again next term.

He was, though, willing to concede that if Josep Guardiola was looking to add reinforcements to his treble winners then he could do worse than look at compatriot Robinho, who only joined Manchester City from Madrid last summer.

"The ones who have money and can allow those luxuries, they do it. That is them," Marca quote him as saying.

"At Barcelona we are not worried because we are the ones who are going to be defending our titles and it is normal that others strengthen so they can try and win.

"If I could recommend players, I would ask that they hired all the players here in the national team. As that is not possible, I think a player that would fit perfectly into our team would be Robinho.

By the way, Soccer (Football) has some of the most interesting Off-Seasons of any sport. American Football probably is the only one that really matches it in my opinion

I wish Man U would target Ruud to replace Ronaldo, or at least try.

With all the money Real Madrid is throwing around this summer, they better get something out of it next season. Anybody know what their total payroll is?

no idea. They'll get a shitload of marketing cash. As for Winning something eh....not so sure about that. La Liga is a good chance because outside of Barca and Real most teams can't compete, not enough cash/talent

Sevilla probably going to get weaker from what i hear, Valencia is in dire money problems and may lose Villa.

    time to update:
Daniel Sturridge, the 19 year old Striker from Man City has agreed to a move to Chelsea, with the compensation paid to City to be decided by a tribunal. Yes i know its hard to believe but Chelsea actually does from time to time sign young players. No need to have a heart attack.

Douglas Costa unlikely to go to Manchester United after its been rumored the price Gremio wants is too high

Luis Jimenez headed on a loan to buy to West Ham for an initial £2m with an option to make the deal permanent for £7.5m

Florent Malouda signed a new deal, keeping him at Chelsea til 2013

Man City sign goalkeeper Stuart Taylor from Aston Villa

Olof Mellberg to Greek side Olympiacos

Hull is looking to sign Michael Owens. Man i feel really sorry for Hull City, i really do

Marc-Antoine Fortune likely to head to a Prem league team soon

Didier Zokora may be headed to Sunderland

Maicon wants to go to Chelsea

    Re: Summer Tranfer Thread

The off season in soccer is phenomenal, simply because of the number of big name players that move, and the way that it works. Teams loan players out, teams buy up the rights to players, they switch leagues and countries.

Another thing I think all professional leagues in America should emulate is relegation. Can you imagine how great the last few games of the MLB season would be if the bottom three teams got sent to the minor leagues? Although that means my pirates would have been bumped years ago, still a fantastic concept.

    edit: spelling and grammar

If that were the case, the Royals and Pirates wouldn't exist anymore , they probably couldn't win even at AAA. Then again Leeds still exists and they can't win shit so i guess not (had to do it)

Plus then you couldn't make fun of the Clippers
