What do you mean only 15 years? Should they have killed him or given him a life sentence?

    Is that real justice?

If I was the judge I would make him do 3 years day for day. He fucked up and should receive time for his crime but remember nobody was killed here.
No one was killed here Jinx because backup arrived. Your telling me some motherfucker who gets pepper-sprayed, pistol whipped, and shot..and STILL keeps trying to beat the piss out of this cop only gets 3 years? This was over a speeding ticket. What happens when some guy "looks at his girl funny" at the bar? This animal beats the guy to death with a fucking pool cue is what happens. You can bet your ass if this guy had a club weapon that cop would have been grievously injured or killed.
This is how I see it addrake.

I am not pushing for anyone to get off scott free. I need to say this because someone might try and put words in my mouth.

This goes beyond lock him up and throw away the key, that concept does not work.

What I am for is ACTUAL rehabilitation and true change within a person. When you state "IF" he had a club he would have killed it would be a different situation, yes it would have. It did not happen though. If he had a plasma rifle would he have used it? who knows but in the eyes of court he can only be punished for what happened. Ag assault.

Send him into prison, rehab him, and if he actually makes progress with the backing of the program leaders then he should have a second chance.

Everyone fucks up. If he truly makes a change see's his mistakes and wants to move foward let him.

Now if he goes into prison, acts like a fool, and says fuck all police then let him serve his time until his mind frame has changed.

    Fair enough?

I should have explained this earlier but it drives me nuts at times to type all this shit out when I could be speaking in person.
I guess I could see that. I am really talking out of both sides of my mouth on this one since I have a real issue with people punishing people for what could have/might still happen. I don't like sex registry laws and laws regarding where those people can live and work. At least in the case of the people caught pissing in the streets, running around naked drunk, touching some girls tit drunk at the bar, etc... Even in the case of real pedophiles, I find it hard to say we punish these people for life without a judge passing that sentence.

    But I digress.

Rehab would be great, it sucks that prison seems to be more of a criminal school that true reform. I suppose 3 years is a long time, 15 years ain't gonna improve this guys temper.

Jiu Jitsu is more of a defensive martial art isnt it? Using the opponents velocity and such against him. That would be perfect for law enforcement.

He was running from the cops... that's more than enough to pull him out of the car throw him on the hood and arrest him...

    That's called evading.

Google is your friend. Dude was a multiple offender found with drugs, who attempted to flee, and then assaulted the arresting officer. Then he took the cop's gun and tried to shoot him, than beat him with it. Ding! Aggravated assault (which it might have been already due to the circumstances)

15 years for a multiple offender with drugs who commits aggravated assault on a cop is quite reasonable in my book. The cop did well to be in as good shape as he was at the end of it, and I'm glad slugger is in jail for a while.

Besides, he'll be out in half that (or less) with good behavior. Jason, I'm not unsympathetic to some of your civil rights concerns, but this guy does not make, what they call in the business, a "sympathetic defendant." If you think 15 years is too much for what he did, you have a number of opportunities to make better choices than he did if you ever find yourself on this event sequence... Sometimes stupid hurts.

Well, they all are defensive to some degree, but I think you're thinking of Aikido. Ju Jitsu is technically "joint manipulation" and is a grappling art. So it certainly presents some fine defensive techniques, but it is Aikido that attempts to use an aggressor's movement and energy against him. That having been said, the various arts have a lot of overlap in some areas, and an Aikido takedown can easily be followed by a Ju Jitsu break. It's all good.

    case by case basis.

I did not know these facts or if they are true. Lets pretend they are and I would have given him 10 years. Let him out in 5 if he has actually changed.
