Video Cards
You had better believe that from the first whispers of the NVIDIA G80 8800 series cards ATI has been hard at work on their next generation product. ATI and NVIDIA trade the moniker of the fastest graphics cards between themselves quite frequently and if the specs that The Inquirer dug up are accurate, they may well steal NVIDIA’s thunder.
Reportedly, the R600 will have a massive heat sink and fan and uses a 12 layer PCB. It seems that the ATI card will be able to push 140GB/s of data. The card is said to use either 1GB of memory or another with 2GB.
The new cards will be Crossfire capable but like the newer current ATI cards, there will be no CrossFire card, just a bridge connector similar to what NVIDIA uses for SLI. The Inq says the card will be in stores right around the Vista launch, January 30th. Only time will tell, but it seems that ATI is closing the huge performance gap that NVIDIA currently enjoys.
