Obama made speeches people bought. He never said anything about it getting worse before it gets better, that I recall, but that's usually what happens. We need to push Afghanistan for the same reason we needed a troop surge in Iraq. Just because it's not in the papers doesn't mean shit just stopped happening around the world. On September 10, 2001, Donald Rumsfeld announced a "war on waste" after an internal audit found that the Pentagon was "missing" 2.3 trillion dollars in unaccounted assets. On September 11th, this was as good as forgotten.

Not many people know that, after September 11, 2001, Osama bin Laden issued a statement on tape that he had nothing to do with the attacks on America and that such actions were against the teachings of Islam. Americans were prevented from accessing this information because we were told that Osama could possibly have an embedded "secret code" in the tape that would alert other terrorists cells to "activate" and target other American cities.
