U.S. launches 'major operation' in Afghanistan
(CNN) -- U.S. troops have launched a "major operation" against Taliban fighters in southern Afghanistan, U.S. military officials announced in Afghanistan early Thursday.
U.S. Marines gather for a briefing in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on Wednesday.
About 4,000 Americans, mostly from the Marines, and 650 Afghan soldiers and police launched Operation Khanjar -- "strike of the sword" -- in the Helmand River
Here we go folks! From Iraq to Afghanistan... whats next? I guess Iran eh?I have a very strict gun control policy: if there's a gun around, I want to be in control of it.

Re: U.S. launches 'major operation' in Afghanistan
LOL it doesn't confuse me... i do know how we have been in Afghan but what does confuse me is why are we stepping up major operations there? Can one of you guys tell me?
Our American Soldiers are fighting for what again?
Did you know that 6 of your American Soldiers have already died TODAY in Afghanistan? What happened to Obama's promise of a US Pullout... instead now we are now pushing in.
Yes you can shrug off the importance of this article with a "psstt... we have been there awhile now" but I won't.. the importance here is that more of OUR American Soldiers are going to die for your freedom/safety. It is my hope that their deaths are not in vain.... cause folks, our freedom/rights/safety are being encroached on everyday by our own out-of-control government. If you don't see this coming, you'll be in my prayers :3

Re: U.S. launches 'major operation' in Afghanistan
We're stepping up operations there because the taliban cut our gains in the country severely because we were too focused on Iraq and hadn't applied everything we learned there to the mountains.
Obama made speeches people bought. He never said anything about it getting worse before it gets better, that I recall, but that's usually what happens. We need to push Afghanistan for the same reason we needed a troop surge in Iraq. Just because it's not in the papers doesn't mean shit just stopped happening around the world. You can't blame him for dropping his idyllic speeches in favor of sound military advice.
