Not sure where you live but central air cost substantually more to run than a swamp coolers. Does anyone know what it cost to run air conditioning in california for say a month straight well let me tell you the first year we bought this house we had a usual summer of 100 plus heat pretty much everyday from the beginning of june till mid august with lows in the 90's at night. We kept thermostat set at 78 in the house and guess what our electric bill was?

well over 600 dollars. after the first heart attack, and making arrangements to pay off the bill over 3 months along with our regular monthly bill, we had a swamp cooler installed on the roof and our electric bill dropped by 1/3. They work best in desert climates.

not really, in Arizona ACs work much much better then Swamp coolers and if we aren't desert climate i don't know what is.

know about the costs though, down where i'm at (south eastern AZ) it can get cold in the winter and running the heater can run up 500-600 dollars a month

House is insulated probably mid level rated though as i have been in the attic and i could probably lay another layer down on top of what is already there which is about 6 to 8 inches, built in 2005 so there was no trees, no lawn, just a regular ol track house when we bought it in 2006. But again rates are different in different parts of the country as far as cost. And it certainly effected what type of cooling system we will use the most. But we still have both. as far as heating we use our fireplace alot in the winter which keeps the cost down on gas heating.

As far as living in AZ did so back in 2000 for about 5 years wife graduated college there. Lived in Goodyear, Chandelier, and Scottsdale also lived in a small town 70 mi. north of Phoenix called Payson shit hole kinda place moved out rather quickly lol... came back where our family is.

attic fans work wonders...along with just getting a box AC....one that you put in your window...

Bust, in AZ the damn plastic would damn near melt, they have to put friggin sprays outside stores just to add a bit of humidity otherwise you would fucking bake.
