What passes as "science" these days is becoming a joke.

With respect to the "science" in this article, if you train yourself to associate a particular expression with the release of tension then ... duh ... if you force yourself not to use it then it contributes to "stress." However, if you associated the same event/circumstance with another form of expression or term then the same will occur. This has to be one of the dumbest studies I've seen published ... well ... it is a bunch of psychologist.

Gee ... if there were some "evolutionarily ancient structures buried deep inside the right half of the brain" one would think that you'd get the same relief from swearing in another language ... even if you don't know what it means or what you are saying. It doesn't ... because you have not trained yourself. Once you do ... then yeah ... saying "scheize," "mierda," et al will bring you whatever contentment you seek. You'd get the same satisfaction from any other nonsense word you trained to accomplish the same.

Bottom line ... this goes much farther to demonstrate that you can stop swearing and that it is a trained and unnecessary behavior.

i think the article kinda makes sense. When your told your whole life that you shouldnt do this or that and its frowned upon, then you go into the "flight or fight" mode, your brain starts doing things its told not to do in normal situations.


Kinda like peeing on yourself when your about to get eaten by a huge animal of some sort. You do it because your scared shitless but somewhere in the back of your head you realize you would be less appetizing if you were drenched in piss.
