I'm not sure that's actually true. And I would examine the psychology of not only the attention needers (as I did in the above post) but also the attention givers.

Me, I skip over most of those posts. From time to time my curiosity gets the best of me, as it did those of you replying to this thread. But clearly a non-descript title is not the best way to get viewers... as evidenced by the view count of this thread vs the "TTP bikini pics" thread.

I think it's either that or some chump sex appeal like you referenced. But you may be right, some folks might just not have a great title for their topics.

The reason I'm guessing it's a way to get more views is because on another forum I used to visit, every now and then people would make a thread title like "Best thing ever" and then have a zero-substance message like "Made you look".
