Civil makes a good point, especially in the depressed economy.

Many were suffering while Wal-Mart was doing better... People like cheap stuff.

I personally try by locally and high quality, but sometimes it just costs too much for even my ethics. If I made good money, I would certainly by US made and local products almost exclusively.

I use a lot of "green" products and prefer to get local food. Many producers of the green products I use are US companies (Seventh Generation, etc). But yes, most of my electronics, sports equipment, and other such gear is usually constructed elsewhere.

    Kirshaw knives are quite nice.
    Maglite
    Timbuk2
    Nalgene
    Litespeed
    Cannondale (some models)
    Trek (most models)
    Park Tool

These are just a few off the top of my head... there are sites listing these and many others.. you would be surprised.

Yea, that's the reason for my question, in terms of machinery, electronics, etc. it seems we get everything from either europe or asia.

Not many things made in America anymore.

WalMart is viable because of bully tactics, as well as a completely uninformed consumer, certainly not because they sell superior products. But like I said, maybe the $5 savings is worth exposing your family to tainted junk bought on the cheap from Chin....I mean Wal Mart.....

Which goes back to exactly what I said, you give MOST people the option of $5 stuff from China, and $10 stuff from the USA then they pick the China stuff, or else Wal-Mart would be out of business, right?

I'm not talking $5 savings on one item, but an entire shopping trip. maybe a nickel's saving on certain items, and yet again, quality is completely inferior and at times dangerous.

Re: CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY - TRAILER

And you prove my point. MOST, not all, people go to Wal-Mart to get the inferior product for the cheaper price. Wal-Mart knows that MOST of the consumers feel this way, so they buy the cheapest stuff they can, and thus sell it as cheap as they can. Consumers speak with their cash, and MOST say give me the cheap stuff, so the companies that do this grow.
